La firme Léger Marketing a réalisé un sondage à Charlevoix. Les résultats sont: Pauline Marois (PQ) 47% et Conrad Harvey (ADQ) 32 %.
Cependant le tiers des répondants ont déclaré pouvoir changer d’idée d’ici la journée de l’élection.
Rappelons que le PLQ a préféré ne pas présenter de candidats…/

One-third of the people surveyed declared that they could change their mind come election day.
The PLQ chose not to have a candidate at this election…

Les funérailles civiques de la mairesse de Québéc, Andrée Boucher, débuteront ce matin à 11h à la basilique Notre-Dame de Québec. Les funérailles seront célébrées par le Cardinal et Archevêque de Québec, Msgr Marc Ouellet.
Des citoyens sont arrivés tôt ce matin pour avoir accès à l’une des 400 places assises à l’intérieur de la basilique. De plus, deux écrans géants et des hauts-parleurs ont été installés à l’extérieur pour que le plus grand nombre de gens possible puissent suivre la cérémonie.
Après la messe le cortège se dirigera vers l’hôtel de ville de Ste-Foy, là ou Mme Boucher a régnée pendant tant d’années. Un arrêt de quelques instants y est prévu. Ensuite c’est direction cimetière de Ste-Foy.
Les obsèques de Mme Boucher seront retransmises par les chaînes câblées RDI et LCN ainsi qu’à la SRC./
The civic funeral of the mayor of Quebec City, Mrs Andrée Boucher, will start at 11 AM this morning at the Quebec City Basilica. The Archbishop of Quebec City, Cardinal Marc Ouellet, will preside over the ceremony.
Many citizens arrived early this morning to get one of the 400 seats inside the basilica. Two giant screens and many speakers have been installed outside for those that can’t enter.
After the funeral mass the procession will make its way to the Ste-Foy townhall, where Mrs Boucher spent most of her career. Then it’s on to the Ste-Foy cemetary for an intimate burial.
The ceremony will be broadcast on all local Quebec City channels, plus the cable news networks RDI and LCN. The SRC (French CBC) will also broadcast the funeral mass.

Lu dans le Washington Times d’hier: trois des candidats à l’investiture républicaine seraient intéressés à avoir l’ancien général Tommy Franks comme colistier. Tommy Franks était le général responsable de l’opération Iraqi Freedom en 2003.
Malheureusement, on ne sait pas qui sont ces trois candidats…/

Warner s’en va/Warner retires
Le sénateur républicain de Virginie, John Warner, annonce qu’il ne se représentera pas l’an prochain. Dommage, j’avais beaucoup de respect pour cet homme politique.
Il venait de la vieille école, celle qui faisait plus de compromis afin d’atteindre un consensus que la nouvelle façon, plus partisane. Même s’il a voté pour la guerre en Irak, le sénateur Warner n’avait pas peur ces derniers mois de mentionner que tout n’était pas rose là-bas et qu’un changement de stratégie s’imposait.
Je crois qu’une bataille mémorable aura lieu pour le remplacer! Déjà, on annonce que peut-être l’ex-gouverneur démocrate de Virginie Mark Warner (aucun lien de parenté) serait intéresser à poser sa candidature./
Republican Senator of Virginia John Warner announced yesterday that he will retire at the end of his term next year. That’s unfortunate, as I have a lot of respect for that politician.
He came from the old-school of politics, which seeked more of a bipartisan consensus on issues, instead of the new school, which is more partisan. Although he did vote for the Iraq war, Senator Warner disagreed with the direction it took and called for a change of strategy.
It will be a grand battle for his seat in 08. I’ve heard that the former Democratic governor of Virginia, Mark Warner (no relation), is interested in succeeding Senator John Warner.
Mario Dumont: opportuniste ou homme de la situation?/ Mario Dumont: opportunist or man in charge?
Le chef de l’Opposition Officielle à Québec, Mario Dumont, est partout dans les médias depuis son retour de vacances. Que ce soit à propos du nombre d’immigrants que le Québec a la capacité d’accueillir, de l’élection partielle qui s’en vient dans Charlevoix ou que faire dans le cas des agresseurs sexuels, le jeune politicien domine l’agenda médiatique.
Est-ce que M. Dumont est l’homme de la situation ou un simple opportuniste ? D’après moi tous les politiciens se doivent d’être un peu opportuniste, sinon ils risquent de devenir complètement déconnectés de la réalité.
Il y a beaucoup de choses qui m’intéressent dans le programme de l’ADQ; ça ne veut pas dire par contre que je voterais pour eux advenant une élection demain matin. Je souhaite voir M.Dumont occuper la fonction de chef de l’opposition pour plusieurs mois, voir un an ou deux. On voit la stature d’un chef à la façon dont il réagit à l’adversité. Et des difficultés c’est sûr qu’il en rencontrera !
Si le Premier Ministre Jean Charest veut rattraper les votes perdus à l’ADQ, il se doit de sortir de son mutisme des derniers jours et de reprendre l’agenda en main. Le succès électoral de M.Dumont est dû au leadership qu’il projetait; M.Charest projette parfois l’image d’un homme qui n’a pas l’air d’aimer ce qu’il fait. Il se doit de se remettre en selle, Dieu sait que les dossiers chauds seront nombreux cette automne./
The leader of the Opposition in Quebec, Mario Dumont, is everywhere in the media since he came back from his vacation. Whether it’s regarding the number of immigrants that the province is able to welcome each year, the upcoming partial election in Charlevoix or what to do with sexual predators, the young politician dominates the agenda.
Is Mr.Dumont the man of the situation or is he a simple opportunist? As far as I’m concerned, all politicians are opportunists, and they must be so a little otherwise they could seem out of touch.
There are many things that I agree with in the ADQ’s political platform, but I’m not sure if I’d vote for them were an election called tomorrow. I want to observe how Mr.Dumont will behave as leader of the opposition this fall, when there will be many dossiers that will be debated at the National Assembly. We recognize a great leader in how he deals with adversity…
If Premier Charest wants to regain the votes that he lost last spring, he must take the lead once again. The electoral successes of Dumont were due to the leadership that he projected. Sometimes it seems like Mr Charest doesn’t like his job. He must regain control of the agenda, Lord knows that there will be a lot of major issues to be dealt with this fall!
Un bel hypocrite?/Another hypocrite?
Un sénateur républicain de l’Idaho a été arrêté en juin dernier pour méfait publique dans une toilette pour hommes à l’aéroport de Minneapolis. Larry Craig, reconnu pour ses positions contre les gays dans l’armée et autres positions dites de valeurs familales, aurait plaidé coupable il y a trois semaines. L’affaire a éclaté au grand jour avant-hier grâce à un article dans la revue Roll Call et dans le journal Idaho Statesman.
Le sénateur Craig a fait un bref point de presse hier après-midi. Accompagné de sa femme, il a déclaré qu’il n’est pas gay, qu’il ne l’a jamais été et que tout ça est une chasse aux sorcières faite par les journalistes. De plus il a mentionné qu’il s’est pris un avocat et qu’il veut revenir sur son plaidoyer de culpabilité.
Son mandat sénatorial se termine en 2008. J’ai un pressentiment qu’il ne se représentera pas; l’Idaho est un état solidement républicain (le président Bush l’a gagné en 2004 avec plus de 38 points d’avance sur son adversaire démocrate), les bonzes du GOP de cet état vont sûrement vouloir un candidat moins sulfureux aux prochaines élections…
Ça me fait toujours rire de voir un tel apôtre des supposées valeurs morales se faire prendre la main dans le sac (ou dans le cas ici, le pied dans l’autre cabinet de toilette!)…En plus il en a remis hier avec sa pathétique explication. Si il est innocent, pourquoi a-t’il plaidé coupable? Sans avocat présent? Ça ne passerait pas le test d’urine, comme dirais ma mère!
Le chef de la minorité au Sénat et d’autres influents sénateurs républicains ont eu une télé-conférence hier après-midi. Ils ont finalement décidés d’envoyer le tout devant le comité d’éthique sénatorial.
Soulignons que le sénateur Craig a quitté la campagne présidentielle de Mitt Romney tôt lundi soir./
A republican senator from Idaho was arrested last June in a men’s restroom at the Minneapolis airport for disorderly conduct. Larry Craig, known for his anti-gay positions, pleaded guilty three weeks ago. An article in the magazine Roll Call and in the Idaho Statesman two days ago revealed the story.
Senator Craig, accompanied by his wife, read a brief statement yesterday afternoon. He repeatedly said that he wasn’t gay and blamed the Idaho Statesman for engaging in a witch-hunt. He also mentionned that he hired a lawyer to change his guilty plea and to plead not-guilty instead.
His mandate is over in 2008; I’d be very surprised to see him seek a new one. Idaho is a solid GOP state (President Bush won it in 2004 with more than 38 points over his Democratic challenger), the Idaho Republican Comittee will most likely want a candidate that has less bagage, so to speak…
It always makes me smile to see another supposedly perfect moral values crusader getting caught with his pants down (or, in this case, with his foot in the other stall). He was pathetic yesterday trying to deny the whole thing. If he’s innocent, why did he plead guilty? Without a lawyer present? The whole thing doesn’t pass the piss test, as my Mom likes to say!
The Senate Minority leader had a conference call with other GOP senators yesterday afternoon and it was decided that the matter will be sent to the Senate ethics commitee.
Senator Craig quit the Mitt Romney presidential campaign early monday night.

-La mairesse de Québec, Andrée Boucher, est décédée hier à l’âge de 70 ans. J’avais beaucoup de respect pour cette femme de tête qui s’assumait entièrement. Elle aurait tant aimée célébrer avec sa ville les fêtes du 400 ième anniversaire l’an prochain! La mairesse aura droit à des funérailles civiques samedi prochain à la Basillique Notre-Dame de Québec./

J’ai une amie qui se prénomme Michelle. Elle a ce qu’on appelle un bon caractère, mais je plains la personne qui la mets hors d’elle!! C’est une femme qui a du coffre!
Je vois Michelle Obama, la femme du sénateur et candidat à l’investiture démocrate Barack Obama, et je vois une personnalité frondeuse, n’ayant pas froid aux yeux. Tasses-toi de là Elizabeth Edwards, les médias américains n’en ont plus que pour cette avocate et mère de famille fort télégénique.
La blogosphère américaine a réagit fortement aux propos que Michelle Obama a tenu lors d’un meeting électoral de son mari dimanche dernier. Elle a déclaré qu’on ne pouvait prétendre à la Maison Blanche que si notre vie familiale était bien gérée! Il n’en fallait pas plus pour que certains y voit une illusion à peine voilée à Hillary Clinton! La campagne de Barack Obama a par la suite envoyé un communiqué expliquant que Michelle parlait de sa propre famille, de la manière dont elle et son mari concilient le travail et la vie familiale (ils sont parents de deux charmantes petites filles).
J’ai vu et revu l’extrait en question, et d’après moi Mme Obama parle de sa propre famille. J’avoue que cette dame a du cran, j’ai beaucoup aimé son discours de la semaine dernière lorsqu’elle affirmait que les politiciens et les médias gouvernaient trop par la peur. J’ai déjà fustigé le sénateur Obama pour certains de ses propos concernant le Pakistan, mais j’avoue qu’il est quelqu’un de très intelligent; les Américains sont chanceux de l’avoir. Par contre je doute qu’il puisse battre la puissante machine Clinton…/
One of my good friend’s name is Michelle. She’s feisty and has a great personnality, but I wouldn’t want to be the person who rubs her the wrong way!
I look at Senator Barack Obama’s wife Michelle and I see the same sort of personnality. Move over Elizabeth Edwards, the US media only has it for Michelle Obama nowadays. The lawyer and mother of two is very gutsy and telegenic. She’s a big hit whenever the senator stumps for the Democratic nomination.
The American blogosphere was buzzing earlier this week about a comment that Michelle Obama made in a speech last sunday. She talked about the need to have somebody in the White House that has his family life in order. The blogosphere then hinted that it was a jab at Senator Clinton…Which the Obama camp denied the next day.
I watched that snippet a few times and, to me, it does look as if Michelle Obama speaks about her own family. No Clinton-bashing there…

Je trouve que les manifestants qui font exprès pour créer du trouble lors de sommet comme celui de Montebello font tout pour ne pas se faire prendre au sérieux, mais il y a quelques trucs qui m’échappent: pourquoi tant de secret au niveau des négociations? En quoi cela va affecter les populations des trois pays concernés? Et nos économies? Nos entreprises de textiles qui ferment et qui sont délocalisées au Mexique? What’s in it for me, comme on dit?/
I think that the protesters that do everything in their power to disguise themselves and fight with policemen make me not want to take them too seriously, but there are some legitimate concerns regarding these kind of meetings.
Why so much secrecy regarding the talks with business leaders and the negociations between the three leaders? What’s in it for us in Canada? What about our economy? What about our textile businesses that close shop here to re-open in Mexico? What’s in it for me?
