Gouverneur chiite tué en Irak/ Shia governor killed in Iraq
Le gouverneur chiite de la province de Muthana (sud de l’Irak) a été tué aujourd’hui dans un attentat à la bombe, d’après l’AFP. Mohammed Al-Asani est le second gouverneur d’origine chiite à mourir assassiné en 10 jours: le 11 août le gouverneur de la province voisine de Qadissiya, Khalil Jamil Hamza, fut tué lui aussi par un attentat à la bombe.
Les deux hommes faisaient parti du parti politique CSRII, alliance chiite islamique rivale de celle du leader chiite radical Muqtada Al-Sadr./
The governor of the shia province of the southern iraqi province of Muthana was killed today in a bombing attack, according to AFP. Muhammad Al-Asni is the second shia governor to have been killed in 10 days; on august 11 Khalil Jamil Hamza, governor of the neighbouring province of Qadissiya, was also killed in a bombing attack.
Both men were members of the CSRII, a shiia islamic coalition rival to radical shia cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr.

Le ministre français des Affaires Étrangères est arrivé hier à Bagdad pour une petite visite. Bernard Kouchner a été reçu par le premier ministre Al-Maliki.
Aux journalistes présents M.Kouchner a dit qu’il était dans l’intérêt de la France de regarder en avant et d’établir des relations bilatérales avec le présent gouvernement irakien. Il s’agit de la première visite d’un ministre du Quai d’Orsay en Irak depuis celle de Roland Dumas en 1988.
Le président d’Irak Jalal Talabani, d’origine kurde, est un ami de longue date de M.Kouchner.
En revanche, aucun entretien entre le ministre français et des personnalités américaines n’était au menu./
The French foreign minister arrived yesterday in Baghdad for an important visit. Bernard Kouchner met with prime minister Al-Maliki.
To journalists Mr. Kouchner said that it was important to look forward and establish bilateral relations with the current Iraq government.
The President of Iraq, Jalal Talabani, is a longtime friend of Mr. Kouchner. No meetings between the minister and american personnalities were planned. It is the first visit to Irak of a Quay d’Orsay minister since Roland Dumas in 1988.

Un fils de politicien déployé en Irak/ A politician’s son deployed to Iraq
Beau Biden ( fils du sénateur de l’état du Delaware et candidat à l’investiture démocrate Joe Biden) vient d’être appelé sous les drapeaux. En effet, l’unité de la garde nationale du capitaine Beau Biden -qui est aussi le ministre de la justice du Delaware (attorney general) -a reçu hier l’ordre de se préparer à un déploiement l’an prochain en Irak.
On dit souvent que les politiciens américians n’ont pas d’enjeu personnel lors de conflits tels le Vietnam, l’Afghanistan, l’Irak et qu’ils se servent donc de l’armée comme d’un joujou…

Beau Biden ( son of senator and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden) received orders yesterday to get ready for deployment next year to Iraq. Captain Biden, who is also Delaware’s attorney general, is a member of the national guard.
It is often said that American politicians don’t have a vested personnal interest in the armed forces, so they use it like a child uses toy soldiers…

Dans le Washington Post d’aujourd’hui il y a un article qui parle des armes aux mains des insurgés irakiens. Le gouvernement américain nous martèle sans cesse que c’est l’Iran et la Syrie qui arment les milices et insurgés d’Irak. Selon un rapport du GAO (Government accountability office), le Pentagone aurait perdu la trace d’environ 190 000 AK-47, armes qui furent distribuées aux services de sécurité irakiens entre 2004 et 2005. Le rapport du GAO fait état d’une distribution d’arme chaotique, d’un système de recenssement d’armes boiteux.
Bien que je déteste les régimes syriens et iraniens, je m’apperçois que les forces américaines sont enlisées, car si elles partent vite le tout risque de dégénérer encore plus…Les forces britanniques ont réduites leurs effectifs à Bassora dans le sud et cette ville, qui fut souvent citée comme un modèle de stabilité par les forces de la coalition, est en train de sombrer dans le chaos elle aussi. Il a été mentionné hier sur la chaine MSNBC que la coalition gouvernant ce pays s’effrite (le bloc sunnite a quitté le parlement)et qu’il y aurait plus de 4 millions de réfugiés humanitaires se massant aux frontières. Rien pour rassurer…Dire que j’ai tout gobbé avant cette invasion!/
In today’s Washington Post there is an article about tons of weapons in the arms of the insurgency. Guess where these AK-47 come from? According to a July report by the GAO (Government Accountability Office) more than 190 000 AK-47 were unaccounted for; these weapons were given by the US to Iraqi security forces between 2004 and 2005. The report says that there is a good chance that some of these weapons have found their ways in the hands of the insurgency that kills and maims American troops.
I wholeheartedly detest the Iranian and Syrian regimes, but for the Pentagon to have lost traces of so many weapons is bizarre. It seems more and more like the Americans are stuck in Iraq for a long time, because who knows what would happen if they left soon? In Bassora, long seen as a model of civility in a sea of chaos, the Brits have reduced their forces and the region is becoming unstable. Yesterday on MSNBC , it was said that in the Iraqi parliament the Sunni-bloc has left. Also, more than 4 million people are in emergency humanitarian assistance, according to estimates.
Disheartning…And to say that I was one of the few here who approved of this invasion!
