Américano-Iranienne libérée/ American-Iranian Woman Freed
-L’universitaire américaine d’origine iranienne Haleh Esfandiani a été libérée hier de la tristement célèbre prison Evin de Téhéran. Après plus de cent jours de captivité Mme Esfandiani a finalement pu reprendre sa liberté. Cependant on ne sait pas encore quand elle pourra quitter l’Iran pour retourner chez elle aux États-Unis.
Mme Esfandiani travaille à l’institut “Woodrow Wilson’s International Center for Scholars” du Smithsonian. Son patron, l’ancien membre du congrès américain Lee H Hamilton a écrit une lettre au Guide Suprême de la Révolution l’Ayatollah Ali Khameini l’enjoignant de libérer Mme Esfandiani. M. Hamilton avait auparavant écrit une lettre au Président Ahmadinejad sans obtenir de réponse ni d’accusé de réception.
Ça doit être terrifiant d’être emprisonnée de la sorte à Téhéran… Les autorités iraniennes l’accusait d’espionnage. Est-ce que je me trompe ou bien est-ce la même prison que la photo-journaliste canado-iranienne Zarah Khazemi photographiait avant d’être arrêtée et battue à mort en 2003 ?/
-An American scholar of Iranian origin was released from the notorious Evin prison of Tehran yesterday. Haleh Esfandiani spent over one hundred days in jail; she was freed on bail for the deed to her mother’s Tehran area house. We don’t know when she’ll be able to go back to her home in the USA.
Mrs Esfandiani works at the Smithsonian’s Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies. Her boss, former congressman Lee H Hamilton, wrote a letter to the Supreme Guide Of The Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khameni asking for her release. Before that Mr Hamilton wrote a letter to President Ahmadinejad but received no response.
That poor woman must have been scared out of her mind; Iranian authorities accused her of being a spy. Maybe I am mistaken but isn’t it the same prison that Canadian photo-journalist Zarah Khazemi took pictures of before she was arrested and subsequently beaten to death in 2003?

Expulsés!/Expelled!
-Hier je faisait part des trois activistes canadiens pro-tibétains arrêtés et mis en détention à Beijing pour avoir déroulé une banderolle. Dans le Globe and Mail d’aujourd’hui il est mentionné que les jeunes canadiens ont été expulsé hier vers Hong-Kong. Selon l’une d’entre eux, ces 36 heures furent très pénibles psychologiquement. /
Yesterday I wrote about those three young Canadians activists who were arrested in Beijing. In today’s Globe and Mail it is written that after 36 hours of detention the pro-Tibetan independance activists were expelled to Hong Kong. According to one of them, these 36 hours were very rough psychologically.

D’après la CBC, trois jeunes Canadiens font partis de six personnes arrêtées mardi lors d’une manifestation contre l’occupation du Tibet à Beijing. Ils ont délier une banière qui avait d’écrit: ”One world, one dream, free Tibet 2008″. Deux des trois jeunes arrêtés viennent de la région de Vancouver.
On ne rigole pas avec le Tibet en Chine; j’espère de tout coeur que ces courageux jeunes gens seront libérés bientôt et pourrons regagner le Canada, pays ou la liberté d’expression est sacrée./
According to the CBC, three young Canadians were amongst six people arrested tuesday in Beijing for having unfolded a banner where it was written “One world, one dream, free Tibet 2008″. Two of these three people apparently come from the Vancouver region.
They’re not kidding when it comes to Tibet in China; I hope that these three courageous young people will be freed soon and will be allowed to come back to Canada, a country where freedom of expression is sacred.
On ne rigole pas en Iran/No fun allowed in Iran
-D’après l’Australian Broadcasting Corporation, plus de 230 jeunes assistants à un concert rock underground ont été arrêtés par la police le weekend dernier. Le concert, donné près de Téhéran, a été perquisitionné par la police qui a arrêté tous les jeunes gens présents. D’après le Procureur de la ville de Karaj, 230 jeunes ont été arrêtés dans ce spectacle jugé satanique et décadent. En Iran il y a de nombreux partys undeground mais le Ministère de la Vertu (comme je déteste ce genre de ministère avec un nom Orwellien) craque sur tout ce qui est contraire à la loi Islamique (mixité, vêtements moulants pour les femmes et la consommation d’alcohol) de ces temps-ci.
Un récent dossier dans la revue The Economist consacré à l’Iran révélait que près de 60% de la population est âgée de moins de 25 ans; ces jeunes n’ont rien connu d’autres que le régime islamique actuel. Parmi les jeunes arrêtés lors du concert il y avait des Britanniques et des Suédois; cependant d’après la chaine australienne rapportant la nouvelle ceux-ci ont également la citoyenneté iranienne et étaient en vacances en Iran.

-According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, some 230 young people were arrested near Theran last weekend at an underground rock concert. The prosecutor of the town of Karaj told Iran’s state broadcaster that the concert was satanic and decadent.
There are many underground parties going on in Iran, but the Ministry of Vice and Virtue (boy do I detest these Orwellian-sounding names! sends shiver down my spine) recently went on a crackdown on everything considered immoral and contrary to the Islamic law (mixed genders, revealing clothing, alcohol comsumption).
A recent dossier in The Economist on Iran revealed that about 60% of Iranians are under 25 year olds; these young people never knew anything other than the current regime. Amongst the young people arrested were some dual nationals from the UK and Sweden, on vacation there.
What a sad place!
